Meet Penny Hoey

I stumbled into photography by way of a search for serenity, rejuvenation and restoration.  I’ll never forget 'our' first outing into nature together.  I fell in love with the viewfinder and the sound of the shutter.  I was transformed by the beauty of the great outdoors--its sounds, smells, colors, elements and animals.   I realized that when I was out tramping through the countryside and composing images, I completely abandoned all else that was constraining.  The freedom for me was intoxicating, as were the images.  I found the whole experience of photography to be exceedingly restful and life giving.

There came a day when I decided to take my camera into the streets of  Charleston to see what I could capture amidst a landscape filled with buildings, streets and people.  That day I discovered what may be my passion -- encapsulating moments from the people around me.  Just as there is great beauty in all the elements of nature, there is great beauty in each and every individual.

I photograph to create representations and impressions that reveal the beauty of nature and individuals, fostering in each image the respect and love that we should nurture for both.
